OBJYN Hospital in Atmeh, Idlib, Syria

Orient Hospital in Atmeh village is one of the biggest and most important medical projects established by Orient for Human Relief inside Syria. The hospital is equivalent to three hospitals (pediatric, surgical, and OBJYN) integrated in one. It services patients along a 100-km distance, from Harem city to Northern Aleppo countryside. The hospital operates at a large capacity; more than 15 surgical procedures from all specialties are performed on a daily basis.

The hospital is equipped with high-quality services and supplies and is staffed with /15/ qualified nurses and /20/ doctors with various specialties and, four of which have received medical training at Harvard University by Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) to report cases of torture and human-rights violations inside detention centers. The hospital is provided with two ambulances and some of the best paramedics. These ambulances transport patients between the hospital, Turkish borders, and inside Syria. The hospital is also equipped with kidney dialysis machines, MRI imaging, and a restaurant for patients and staff.

Targeting Atmeh Hospital

Atmeh Hospital was targeted on Feb 23rd, 2014 by a car bomb sent by the Syrian Regime. The attack resulted in the death of /16/ innocent civilians and the injury of more than /65/ others, among whom are children and medical staff, in addition to severe damage to the hospital’s infrastructure. Orient for Human Relief had immediately worked on rehabilitating the hospital and providing it with all the necessary medical equipment to regain functionality.

Atmeh Hospital operated independently until 08/2013 when it was integrated with “Atmeh Surgical Hospital” as a special OBGYN and delivery unit to be under its administration and general support.
