Surgical Hospital in Jisr Al-Shughur, Idlib, Syria

On May of 2015 Orient for Human Relief established “Al-qunaya Humanitarian Hospital” or “Jisr Al-Shughur Hospital” as locals like to call it. The hospital fits around /30/ beds with an operating room, and an intensive care unit with five beds, as well as external medical clinics. Jisr Al-Shughur was chosen as a location for this hospital basically to reduce the pressure on Atmeh Orient Hospital, and to reduce commute for patients.

The hospital is equipped with all kind of medical staff from multiple specialties some of which are: Surgeries (general, Orthopedic, and dental), OBGYN department, Dentistry department, and laboratory. The total number of medical staff working in the hospital reaches around fifty people of doctors, nurse, technicians, and management.

Targeting Jisr Al-Shughur Hospital

The repeated targeting to Jisr Al-Shughur hospital by the Syrian and Russian air force led to severe hospital damage, and most of the medical machines were damaged, as well as ambulances. Orient determination to continue medical services drove it to restore the hospital after every attack.

Orient Hospital in Jisr Al-Shughur became a regular target for air bombings, which represented a real threat to the workers and the locals in the area, which led Orient for Human Relief to close the hospital by the end of 12/2014. Orient then started working on the medical referral system via the variety of health centers associated with the “Orient Medical Assembly in Idleb city“.
